2018 Goals, Plans, Intentions
This is a bit of a more personal post for a change. As a family we have some big plans for 2018 and I’d love to share our biggest one! Travel!!!
Where did it all start?
Around about May or June last year (2017) I started to think about travelling the world, taking the kids out of school and just exploring the world, learning languages, different cultures. I can’t quite remember where it came from but it was clear as a bell to me.
It was an idea I toyed with for sometime, like a fantasy. It was never actually going to happen as it wasn’t the sort of thing people did, not normal people. So it was just this beautiful fantasy for a little while. I mentioned it to my husband, even my kids! But in a wistful way, wouldn’t it be lovely to………
As I toyed with it more and more, the fantasy grew and expanded. I started to ask the question
- The kids need to be at school
- Neil has a job where he works ridiculous hours
- I have clients
- What about our pets
These were my initial objections.
Starting to get real
Of course the more I started to take it seriously the more objections showed up.
It’s been such a long drawn out gradual shift that I really can’t quite remember dates or anything like that but eventually I reached a stage that it became a real possibility. I remember sitting down as I was getting quite panicky, imagining crazy stuff like what if the kids were kidnapped or fell off a cliff or drowned in the sea? What if I ruined my eldest daughters life by taking her out of school the year she is due to sit her first exams?
Eventually I just had to sit down and write down all of my worst case scenarios, then one by one check if they were true.
So here we are at the start of 2018, we have a lot of manifesting to do to make it happen yet we are also flexible to see what the universe brings us. At the moment the ideal plan is for Neil to leave work with redundancy or worst case a years sabbatical, to start travelling with the kids and Daisy (our dog) from July 2018. Home school for the year with Heather returning for exams in 2019, and for someone to rent our house and look after our cat while we are away.
That is some pretty major manifesting but I do believe this or something even better will happen for us. Plans may change at some point and that is ok, we may be thrown the occasional curve ball. But we will deal with these if or when then happen. An important part of manifesting is not dwelling on the lack.
Give your attention to what you want to happen, not what you don’t want to happen.
My ideal way to travel would be in an old Volkswagen Campervan, I absolutely adore them and the hippy lifestyle. But in reality they are nowhere near big enough for 2 adults, 2 teenagers, a child and a big dog. So we are now planning on a large caravan we can leave on site or house swapping/sitting. We still haven’t decided on which method we will use yet but at the moment the caravan seems most likely. We are sticking to Europe so Daisy can come with us on her doggie passport and we don’t have to put her into quarantine. I want to see the world and we will do this too, but these will have to be shorter spells with Daisy staying at home. Again though we are being open and flexible to whatever opportunities present themselves.
We have made a few preparations already, we have talked to my daughters school although realistically if she is going to sit her exams it will be as an external candidate. It seems legally she can sit her National 5 exams as long as she has her National 4 which she is studying this year.
Another trial thing we have going on is we are trying out pet sitting in Malta to see how we get on living this way as an option. And we have a lovely lady and her 2 children living in our home helping to get the house ready for selling/renting/exchanging, she is also house sitting for us while we are in Malta. This has been a wonderful experience and happened in such a random way that only the universe could have made this happen. The opportunity presented itself and it has worked very very well.
So far all of these experiences have been wonderful, and a great way for us to learn to be more open and trust people. .
We may also looking to house other families in Spring time in exchange for our garden being tidied and looking amazing, again in case we sell/rent/houseswap. It’s such a exciting time and 2017 has been such a shift for us all.
Other preparations are talking to the kids and discussing our plans but for now we can only do so much since we still don’t know what is going to happen with Neil’s work.
No fixed plans
We are open to whatever happens, I am so excited to start home schooling (home educating) and travelling as a family.
We have no fixed plans, just a rough idea but we are so excited and just cannot wait to do this!!!
